Balakun - a bridge between passionate volunteer mentors from around the world and Ukrainians eager to learn English. We link up Ukrainians (students) who want to learn English with fluent English speakers (mentos) from all over the world who want to support Ukraine in a practical way. Mentors can contribute from their own home and it will costs only their time.Our name "Balakun" is Ukrainian for "chatterbox," representing the essence of our initiative – to foster meaningful conversations and build connections.In these challenging times for Ukraine, learning English isn't just about language; it's an escape, a way to communicate with the world, and a beacon of hope. Our mission goes beyond language. It's about unity, support, and resilience.
Type of work for volunteers:
- Mentoring - one on one online sessions with students to practice English. You don't need to be a tutor or teacher, just a fluent speaker. We will provide you with helpful materials if you need them. Many students just wish to chat.
- Group Teaching - experienced teachers can run weekly group classes (no more than 10 students) on various topics such as general English, medical English, business English, English for IT etc.
- Admin volunteers - we always need help on the admin side, for example people who can help with verification on new members, monitor social media sites and work with the teaching materials group to provide the best content to our users. Also people with management or IT experience of graphic designers are very helpful!
Most of out students are in Ukraine, so online sessions are usually scheduled during the day and evening Kyiv time, but some students are outside Ukraine so mentors from all over the world can find a suitable time to meet with their student.
